Helping you find the support you need.

Let’s work together to find the perfect place to start.

Children

I believe everyone has an innate drive toward wholeness and health. However, experiences in childhood can lead to coping mechanisms that, while effective initially, may disrupt healthy development. When these strategies hinder a child's well-being, psychotherapy can be a valuable intervention.

In therapy, I provide children with insights about their developing brains and bodies, fostering empowerment and understanding. I use engaging techniques like drawing, painting, projective cards, and musical instruments to help bring unconscious experiences to conscious awareness.

I also help children create personalized tools to address their specific challenges, incorporating mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and EMDR, among other methods.

Adolescents

Adolescence is a period of significant physical, cognitive, emotional, social, and moral development. Recognizing these changes helps parents and caregivers support teens as they face various challenges, including:

  • Self-Esteem Fluctuations: Navigating new social dynamics and body changes.

  • Emotional Management: Learning to handle emotions while experiencing mood swings and dysregulation.

  • Independence Seeking: Gaining autonomy can lead to conflicts with parents and family.

  • Peer Influence: Friends and peer groups significantly impact behavior, interests, and self-esteem, with pressure to conform to norms.

  • Identity Development: Ongoing exploration of cultural, gender, and social identities.

  • Brain Changes: Hormonal shifts during puberty and significant development in the prefrontal cortex affect decision-making and impulse control. Educating teens about these changes empowers them.

I also help teens create customized tools to address their challenges, utilizing mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral approaches, and EMDR, among other methods.

Parenting & Caregiver Support

I am passionate about working closely with parents and caregivers. Children and teens are a part of a larger family system and it is vitally important that we work closely together to ensure we are in alignment with treatment goals so that I can design targeted interventions to reach those goals.

I typically do an intake with parents and caregivers before the first session. Next, if appropriate and in the best interest of the child or teen, I meet with them and their parents and sometimes siblings. Next, I typically meet with the child or teen individually for 4-5 sessions.

Finally, I check in with the parents or caregivers individually or with the client. At that time, we determine if the treatment goals are met and treatment is complete for now, or if more sessions are warranted.

Individual Adult Therapy

In much the same way I help and support children and teens, I offer support to individual adults. In addition to present day stresses and experiences, childhood experiences can impact adults’ lives.

Like children and teens, many adults have developed coping mechanisms that worked for a time, but can eventually get in their way in their daily lives. Psychotherapy can help bring awareness to these patterns, and can provide more adaptive tools and coping strategies.

Experiences in childhood can cause individuals to internalize inaccurate messages about themselves which may be stored on an unconscious level. Psychotherapy can help to unearth these messages so that they can be seen through the light of conscious, present awareness. Once aware, one can look at these messages and begin to understand why they took them in at that time in their lives. Together we can apply reality testing and common sense to determine if this message is actually true or not, and feelings about them can be expressed. Next, with support one can develop compassion for one’s younger self, and begin to feel self-nurturing for that part.

Whether you are experiencing difficulty in your career, your relationships or with yourself, your partner, your child, or others, I’m here to support you and help you develop the skills needed to reach your goals.
